Chapter 5

Sierra fiddled with the button on her blouse, unable to look at Harrison as the plane taxied to a stop. They were on some tropical island in the Caribbean and she was nervous about what was to come. Over and over last night, he’d made love to her, only to have her collapse into his arms and fall back to sleep.

She didn’t like losing control, she thought as the airport staff rushed out of the terminal to push a staircase up to the private plane.

“Are you ready?” Harrison asked, standing up and offering her his hand.

“Ready?” she asked, her mind still stuck on last night’s insanity and wondering how she could stop that from happening again. But did she really want that to stop?

Of course she did! She wasn’t like that! And she didn’t like this man! She barely knew him!

Harrison waited patiently for Sierra to take his hand. The doors to the plane opened up and still he waited, wondering what was going through her mind. In the end, she sighed and put her small, delicate hand into his larger one and he closed his fingers around hers, helping her out of the seat. But he didn’t release her hand, keeping her close even while they descended the stairs. A jeep was waiting at the bottom of the stairs, one of the other staff members already loading up the back with their luggage into the old, dilapidated vehicle that was invented before Ford took over making the modern day Jeep. Fortunately, this vehicle ran as if it had only been created yesterday!

He noticed that Sierra only had one bag and thought that was odd. But he would fix that, he thought. He’d take her shopping and dress her up, filling up more bags to take home. He wanted to shower her with gifts, which was a strange notion. He was used to women teasing and cajoling him to buy them things but this little woman wasn’t doing any of those tricks and he respected her more because of that.

“What’s on your mind?” he asked as he led her down the staircase.

Sierra sighed, pushing her hair out of her eyes as the wind whipped it out of place. “I’m fine,” she lied, wishing she had the courage to talk to him. But he scared her. The man could do things to her, make her want things…make her want him!

He led her over to the passenger side of the jeep and closed the door with her in the passenger seat. Since the top was off, he could still talk to her. “You’re not fine. Something is on your mind. Are you going to talk to me?”

Sierra looked down at her hands, her fingers twisting in her lap. “I’m fine,” she repeated, nervous now because he had that hard look in his blue eyes.

Harrison sighed. “Fine. But we have two weeks here on the island. Eventually, you’re going to learn to trust me and you’ll explain what’s going on in that lovely head of yours.
